Course Description

Every day, students are teased, intimidated, harassed, and hurt by other students. Bullying is a big problem in our schools and educators can do something about it. This course will help all educators and staff members to create a classroom/school environment where everyone feels safe, accepted and valued. It will help you to identify and empower victims of bullying as well as act quickly and effectively when learning of a bullying incident. Participants will also learn how to effectively communicate with parents while establishing a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. This course is a must for all educators K-12.

Course Objectives

Students that enroll in this class will...

Know

  • the difference between the facts and myths of bullying.
  • district and/or building policies against bullying.
  • cyberbullying and its harmful effects.

Understand

  • how they can help prevent bullying in their classes and schools.
  • that bullying manifests itself in many different kinds of behaviors, some of which are more easily noticed than others.
  • myths and misconceptions about bullying, bullies and the bullied.

and Be Able To

  • establish classroom rules and consequences that promote zero-tolerance for bullying.
  • identify and diffuse a bullying situation.
  • communicate effectively with parents of both bullies and victims.
